Casino Rail Freight Terminal

Greenloaning was engaged by Plateway to provide ecological impact assessments for the proposed Casino Rail Freight Terminal to be constructed near an existing wetland system to the North of Casino, in northern NSW. The wetlands provide habitat for a range of wetland birds and shorebirds, including the threatened Black-necked Stork and migratory Sharp-tailed Sandpiper. Greenloaning subsequently prepared a wetland management plan, which included mitigation strategies to preserve and revegetate a natural buffer around the wetland, enhancing existing Endangered Ecological Communities. The site has important aboriginal cultural heritage significance due to the presence of a number of scar trees and the discovery of Aboriginal artefacts on the site. To enhance the cultural partnership, the rehabilitation of the buffer areas is planned to be conducted by local indigenous bush regeneration teams.
