Surveys and assessments were conducted for a resource recovery project on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Desktop assessments indicated part of the project site was covered by the Biodiversity Values Mapping under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, triggering the requirement for the preparation of a BDAR.
The site had been subject to substantial disturbance in previous decades, but also supported some native vegetation regeneration and associated native fauna habitat, as well as extensive weed growth.
Some small pockets of remnant and regenerating vegetation also supported Koala food trees and Greenloaning confirmed low use of some habitat through SAT Plot surveys. These stands of trees including Koala food trees subsequently were excised from the development footprint.
Microbat trapping and acoustic surveys yielded records of a number of non-threatened species and one call of the threatened Little Bent-winged Bat (Miniopterus australis), indicating potential minor foraging activity over the site. No credits were required to be retired for the project for threatened fauna species, but the proposed clearing activities triggered the requirements for 3 ecosystem credits to be retired. No Serious and Irreversible Impacts were associated with the project.
